Description
We can all agree that summer in the busy city isn’t the most pleasant experience, especially, if you crave complete relaxation and fresh air. Luckily enough Sofia has not only man-made but also natural beauty. The residents of the Bulgarian capital city are blessed to be living near a picturesque mountain called Vitosha. One of the gems of Vitosha Mountain, which attracts numerous hikers each year, is the Boyana waterfall. The Boyana waterfall is only around 10 kilometers away from the National Palace of Culture in a straight line but inexperienced hikers might find the trek difficult, if they haven’t brought provisions along. The route to the Boyana waterfall has good markings and you really need to try to get lost. Also, if you are feeling hungry, there are several huts that are ready to serve simple yet delicious meals to hikers. The closest hut to the waterfall is called “Esperanto”.
The Boyana waterfall is accessible all year round but due to the steep slopes, that must be climbed in order to reach the destination, it is best that visitors go in the summer. Also the river and the waterfall are not as majestic during the winter as they are in the spring and summer. The Boyana waterfall itself is 25 meters high and is hidden within a forest that casts a thick shadow.
